@PoliteChickens This is about who ran the fastest period. That is fastest with no restrictions. You are adding a restriction when you talk about being in equipment. Hines was the fastest man to ever play in the NFL. No one has run faster. Here is a list of the 10 fastest players in NFL history 7 of those players ran faster than Green:.
                              1. Jim Hines 9.95 9/14/1968 (Dolphins 1969 – Chiefs 1970)
                              2. Trindon Holliday 10.00 6/10 & 12/2009 (Texans, Broncos, Raiders)
                              3. Jeffrey Demps 10.01 6/28/2008 (Buccaneers)
                              Jacoby Ford 10.01 6/10/2009 (Raiders)
                              5. Bob Hayes 10.06 10/15/1964 (Cowboys, 49ers)
Ron Brown 10.06 8/24/1983 (Rams, Raiders)
                              7. Alvis Whitted 10.07 7/15/1996 (Jaguars, Raiders)
                              8. Darrell Green 10.08 4/13/1983 (Redskins)
                              9. Sam Graddy 10.09 5/12/1984 (Broncos, Raiders)
                              10. Willie Gault 10.10 6/5/1982 (Bears, Raiders)
All times are fully automatic times and are verified by the IAAF.

CJ was a great running back but not the fastest ever. Willie Gult Chicago, Darrell Green Washington, Ron Brown L.A Rams. Bo Jackson Tampa. Tyreek Hill KC. Byron Jones Dallas all are much much faster.

Bob Hayes is the fastest player in NFL history. At the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Hayes won the 100 meter and broke the existing World Record with a time of 10.06 seconds.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but Hayes' record was broken in 1968 By Jim Hines on the night of speed with a 10.03. He went on to the Olympics and became thefirst human being to officially break the 10 second barrier by running 9.95. He immediately signed with the Dolphins and also played with the Chiefs.

@Tony Stark The question is do you know what you are talking about? The answer is obviously no.
                                      1. Moss had a hand timed 4.25 during a pro day at Marshall in 1999. Hand timed which means it was inaccurate. He also had a pre draft time of 4.38. Even so 4.25 is not the quickest 40. There are 17 players that have hand times and 3 with semi automatic times faster than 4.25. https://www.gridironstuds.com/blog/the-fastest-40-yard-dash-ever/ not all are really believable.
                                      2. The 40 doesn't measure how fast the really fast players run. It only measures quickness and partial acceleration because they are still accelerating at the 40yd mark. They can accelerate out to 50m before reaching top speed. So the 40 cannot possibly determine who is fastest when they aren't even running their fastest.
                                      3. Moss is just a natural fast guy. In order to get to the world class level you have to have years of sprint training. There are no naturally fast guys that can just jump onto a track and run world class times. It is physically impossible. Moss never had years of sprint training. So guess what? He did not have world class speed. That sir is a fact.
4.Terence Newman did run Moss down from 4-5 yards behind. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=%23&ved=2ahUKEwjPx6C_yI_nAhWqwVkKHbCsBvYQwqsBMAB6BAgIEAQ&usg=AOvVaw0VTJzWxrN8ZFOD4xbU2nov. And do try to give me: Oh Moss lost a few steps playing for Oakland or Moss was old. He was 28. He wasn't hurt or disgruntled by the 5th game into his first season there. He ran into a real 10.20 world class sprinter. None of the other DBs he faced had world class speed except Darrell Green in Moss' rookie year (3 rec 64yds 0 tds) and an injured Deion Sanders who hardly played in the game.

Yes I was alive when Moss played. He was a great receiver top 3 no doubt. But when it comes to speed he is not in the top 50 players of all time by actual measured speed.

@sydboski dude get outta here, in his prime Moss was the fastest, had the fastest 40, were you even alive when Moss played?????

Stop it. Moss was run down from behind by Terence Newman. Moss did not have world class speed. Bit there were more than 25 world class sprinters that have played im the NFL. All of them were faster than Moss.

@Taz Saalim There are only three methods of timing:
                                                1. Hand time (HT) Clock is started and stopped by hand. Before 1999 the NFL used this method EXCLUSIVELY to time their 40 yard dashes.
                                                2. Semi Automatic Timing (SAT) Clock is started by hand and stopped by laser. This method has been in use by the NFL combine since 1999. But pro days are still hand timed. SAT is 50% more accurate than HT.
                                                3. Fully Automatic Timing (FAT). Clock is started by a starter's pistol and stopped by laser.
There is no electronic clocking method. Electronic is the way the time is displayed on a time clock or scoreboard.
I never said Bo wasn't faster. He is faster. But that is because of their 100m time. Bo 10.44 to CJ's 10.66. Neither of those times are in the top 60 in NFL history.

@sydboski his 40 time isn't a myth, he confirmed it, they had both stop watches and electronics. Either way bo is faster

                                                @Taz Saalim
                                                1. Bo's 40 is a myth. None of his times from different distances add up to him being that quick,
                                                2. If he ever ran the 40 it was hand timed and prone to human error. The NFL uses semi automatic timing since 1999. Everything before that was hand timed and no longer official.
                                                3. the 40 doesn't measure the top speed of these players. It only measures quickness and partial acceleration because they don't reach top speed til about 50m out. They are still accelerating at the 40yd mark. So the 40 cannot determine who is fastest when they aren't even running their fastest.
When I say fastest I mean in a REAL race not a BS 40. The 100m dash determines who is the fastest in the entire world. Bo's best 100m dash is 10.44 which ranks him 62nd in NFL history among players with verified 100m dash times. CJ ran 10.66 which ranks him 78th.
