I don't understand the rationale of recommending batteries that you didn't test.

All good gifts and perfect gifts comes down from the Father of lights in who there is no variableness or shadow or turning Jesus said . And that faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. We must be willing to turn from sin and self to receive Jesus forgiveness. And to know and live out his. KJV, NKJV, NASB.

Your tests are certainly thorough, but you are testing new batteries. Automotive batteries are no longer made with solid lead plates, but with recycled lead powder attached to some kind of plate. I would be willing to bet your top two batteries wouldn't even rate if they were a year or two old.

                      2 Questions:

                      1. How do they compare with an Exide battery ?
                      2. Recharging - what was the charge current and voltage ? Setting a switch to 10A says nothing. To compare, you need to charge batteries at 14·6 volts for the hour - AND note the charging current - some will take more current and charge quicker.

Interesting information for sure. How about "Which car battery is best when new?" There are a lot of factors that go into battery performance in the long term. One should place felt battery terminal washers over the 17mm and 19mm terminals to absorb battery mist that causes corrosion. Also spray the terminals with battery terminal spray. Rating battery terminal spray would be an interesting project for the farm.

Back 20 years ago, nothing and I mean nothing was better than a DieHard Battery. When cranking over our super high compression engines plus lasting through all the hard abuse, no other battery came close... most batteries barely made it to half their warranties, the DieHards always out lasted their warranties. I still would pick DieHard in above freezing conditions.

perfect timing! I need to replace the Everstart battery I purchased in 2014. My load tester shows it to be good, I suspect it has a failing cell. This battery was purchased at Walmart in July 2014 with a 2 yr replacement warranty. Lasting 5 years in a car that has always on headlights is wonderful. you have shown me saving money on a Walmart battery was a good idea. Living in Michigan I need the cold-cranking amps. Thanks

Great test, but, every battery you got was a gold or premium series, except the carquest was a silver, there is a difference between there silver and gold series, I'd live to see what the gold would do against the others.

Apologies for the long comment. But you can always ignore it. lol
And good job on working smarter not harder. I still use electrical meters and math to determine resistance and actual current ratings. lol Should buy one of those testers I guess.
                            -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My theory on battery cost outside of the AGM cells:
People pay the prices. It's that simple.
If consumers lodged a protest and refused to purchase, prices would drop dramatically overnight. (applies to gas as well)
But in the battery market, consumers are usually left without a choice of protesting. Chances are their battery is dead, therefore they must buy one no matter what.
Manufacturers are WELL informed of this and fully take advantage of it.
Costs to manufacture drop every 5 years at least.
                            But they continuously raise prices.
In order to prevent over-pricing, laws must be submitted and voted for. But that runs a risk of effecting good ole' capitalism.
And that is what leaves us in the sinking boat known as greed driven price inflation.

AGM batteries on the other hand, you have to pay for the tech so to speak.
Their ability to be 80% discharged and recover is impressive.
And they can be charged very fast in comparison to flooded cells.
But beware when you use AGM. Not even joking.
Many vehicle charging systems have a fixed float charge of 14.4 volts. 2.4 volts per cell.
AGM demands a lower float charge of 2.25 volts per cell, with 2.30 volts being max.
They can be damaged easily by overcharging. A long drive can be enough to cook the battery.
                            ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My gas hypothesis that can be considered a testable theory:
If everyone simply filled their tanks on a given day and did NOT buy ANY gas on the following day, by the 3rd day, gas prices would be around $1.50 a gallon at most.
We all could buy 10,000 gallons all in one day, but as long as no gas purchases occurred the following day, those companies would literally freak and prices would plummet.
Those companies operate on a daily basis. Meaning their profits MUST be above a certain level each day no matter what. One day of no fuel purchases places them tens of MILLIONS below their acceptable profit margin.
They would bend to our will like a wet noodle.
Even just planning such an event would cause them to drop prices. Even if it is impossible to get everyone to do one simple thing at the same time on the same day. lol

This is my favorite channel and this would've been my all time favorite comparison and most useful, if you would have used the (Advance) Autocraft Gold Series, which is the only battery anyone in my family has bought the last 10-15 years. I still found it very informative, although I thought the end result was to determine the best battery on the market. So I guess i will probably give the Walmart brand a go next time around and see for myself. I'm sorry if this had already been answered , as I did try to scroll through the comments to check,, but 8,200 if them is a little too time consuming. Still, i greatly appreciate all the time spent and work you do on here!!!

The "volt increase" metric for how fast a battery charges is useless as each battery has a different charge discharge curve and it won't be linear. Since your starting the batteries at different charge levels this is pretty meaningless information.

We had a Walmart Everstart battery that just died after something like 2 years. At the end it would always under charge and then occasionally would discharge to 8V within a few hours. No battery drain from the car, and the problem went away when we got a new battery.

I don’t know if you were going for batteries in the same price range or straight performance. I work for advanced and I just thought it was unfair to compare our lowest end battery to competitors nicer batteries that cost more. I would’ve liked if you compared using our gold or even platinum for comparison sake.

Walmart was rated a top battery by consumer reports years ago. I started buying them instead of batteries from advance auto. The last two batteries I purchased from Walmart didn't last 6 months. This is something that interest me considering all the batteries i have to purchase for our company every year. I'm curious why an interstate battery wasn't tested, it seems to be pretty popular with auto care centers.
